On June 6, 1944, as the world held its breath during the Normandy invasion, the Seabees were among the first to charge ashore. Their mission? To destroy the formidable steel and concrete barriers that threatened the success of the amphibious landings.
Facing relentless German fire, these fearless warriors risked it all to ensure that their explosive charges went off on schedule, creating critical openings in the enemy's defenses. Their unwavering dedication and courage paved the way for Allied forces to storm the beaches and change the course of history.
But the Seabees' contributions didn't end there. With unmatched tenacity, they tirelessly assembled pontoon causeways under constant enemy fire, enabling troops and tanks to advance inland. They manned the vital Rhinos, transporting men and supplies to the front lines. They built offshore cargo and docking facilities, creating the legendary Mulberry A, a lifeline for the Allies' war effort.
In just 28 days after D-Day, the Seabees had already helped land over a million Allied fighting men, proving that their determination knew no bounds.
